Children who will turn 3 by August 31, 2008 through in-going kindergarteners will be in the Preschool camp.
In-going 1st through in-going 5th Graders will participate in the elementary camp.
We Need All Hands on Deck!!
Terrific! We are so excited that you want to help this year! Below we have listed a description of each volunteer opportunity. After you look them over, choose the one that is best for you and let us know by emailing us directly. heather@belairpres.org
There are a couple of qualifications that every volunteer must have:
- Love the Lord
- Love children
- Be at least 14 years old
- Be committed to show up on time each day that you are serving
- Attend one of our training sessions to be held later in the spring
Below are some more specific information about each volunteer opportunity.
Prayer Team-
This is the most important volunteer opportunity out there. Please pray for VBS this year. The more we pray the better the week will go. We can't do this alone!
Camp Cap'n (Lead Teacher)
As a Camp Cap'n you will be responsible for leading a group of 10–12 children around to the different Stations and helping to facilitate group discussions. You will have at least one crew member with you at all times. There is no at home prep-work involved. You simply show up each day and have fun!
Crew Member-
Crew Members are crucial to the success of the small group. The primary role is to make sure that the little Buccaneers are connected and having a good time. Some ways you can expect to support your Cap'n are by helping in group discussions, taking children to the restroom, and keeping disruptions to a minimum during small and large group times.
Recreation Team
If you enjoy team sports, outdoor activities and encouraging others to do their best then this is the job for you! This high-energy team is in charge of creating fun and engaging games for the children as they rotate through the recreation area Monday through Thursday (there will be no recreation on Friday. See VBS Store for more details). This is a great area for Middle and high school aged children to serve in.
Grog & Grub (Snack Team)-
Grog & Grub Team members need to be organized, creative and able to work at a fast pace. Oh, and you must also like to prepare and serve food! You will be coordinating food supplies for each day’s snack. During VBS each day this team will not only prepare the snack supplies but deliver the supplies to the small group. We will also be having a Volunteer Break Room with healthy snacks for volunteers only. We will need some people to remain in the kitchen preparing snack items, some to deliver food to small groups, and some to make sure the Volunteer's Break Room is cared for.
Craft Team-
If you are one of those "artsy" types then you’ll love the Craft Team. We will have Craft time Monday through Thursday. (On Friday, we will be having the VBS Store. See below for more details) Each day you will set-up the craft area with the necessary supplies prior to the first group coming through. As groups rotate through your area you will be in charge of clearly explaining the craft and assisting the children as needed.
Drama/Music Team-
Each day the children will enjoy high-energy worship and drama at Jolly Joe's, the opening and closing Large Group time. If you are talented in any of these areas please come and be a part of our team.
VBS Store (Friday Only)
This is a great opportunity for those who can only serve on Friday or for members of the craft and recreation teams since those stations will only be open Monday through Thursday. Throughout the week students will earn stamps. They will be able to earn a maximum number of stamps per day for things like memorizing their Bible verse, participating in group discussions, doing good deeds within the group, participating in the Mission Project, etc. On Friday the children will be able to redeem their stamps for items at the store. We will need volunteers to pick out store items (through sources like Oriental Trading Co.) sort items according to "price", and help children redeem their stamps.
Registration Team/ Greeters-
Monday morning of VBS is hectic. There is no getting around it. In order for us to make the morning go as smoothly as possible we need several people to be on-site to help us in certain areas of high-demand. You can help at the registration table handling last minute sign-ups and group changes or you can help people who have never been to Bel Air Pres find their way around our campus. Monday and Tuesday should be the heaviest days in terms of registration, but we will need greeters throughout the week. We will ask that you arrive early each day so that we can create a welcoming, non-chaotic environment for our VBS families.
Decorating Team-
Do you love to decorate? Do you have some great ideas about how to turn Bel Air into Davey Jones’ Locker? If so, join this team!
Shopping for Supplies-
If shopping is your thing then this is for you. We will need food for snacks, supplies for craft, and other general shopping. You will, of course, have a budget and be reimbursed.
Recruiting Volunteers-
This is a great opportunity to help from home starting today! You will be asked to call potential volunteers and explain what opportunities there are to serve and then place them where they would like to be.
Mission Project-
We are looking for individuals with a heart for missions to serve on this team. During VBS we will be doing a mission project with the kids and you will be asked to help facilitate that.
Tech Team-
This team will be in charge of our tech support for our opening and closing times each day.
Clean-up Crew-
It will be a mess! We will need several people to be on campus Friday afternoon to help us put Bel Air back together again.
