On Friday night April 18, 2008—
Celebrate Recovery comes to Bel Air Pres!
The Program
Celebrate Recovery is a 12-step Christ-centered program offering hope to those struggling with any form of dependency and addiction. It is a place that where others can come alongside you – for support, understanding and accountability. Structured from the program created by Rick Warren's Saddleback Church,
Celebrate Recovery will gather every Friday evening and include dinner, worship & prayer, a Biblically based lesson and small sharing groups.
Bel Air's Mission
Bel Air Presbyterian should be a place where God's presence is known and God's grace is experienced. God has created us with a great capacity to freely love & live in relationship to God and our neighbor; yet many of us live lives in various states of compulsion, obsession or preoccupations that side track our energy and enslave us. The mission of
Celebrate Recovery at Bel Air is to disciple men & women out of addictions and into the grace of Jesus Christ, our one and only Higher Power.
Each Friday Evening
Every meeting of
Celebrate Recovery will be composed of the following parts:
6–7 p.m.:
Fellowship Dinner. Come before the meeting to spend time with other attendees.
7–8 p.m.:
Worship, Prayer and the Lesson. A time of praise, prayer and a short lesson drawn from both the Word and the 12 Steps will be presented to all. Other meetings will alternate with a testimonial from those in recovery.
8–9 p.m.:
Small Sharing Groups. After the lesson, the large meeting will break into small groups where attendees will go, each according to their specific area of need, and have the opportunity to listen & share.
9–10 p.m.:
Fresh Air Café: A time of socializing after the meeting itself.
Sharing Groups
Sharing in small groups is based on the following issues of dependency:
- Men's Chemical Dependency (incl. alcohol and other drugs)
- Women's Chemical Dependency (incl. alcohol and other drugs)
- Men's General Issues (incl. co-dependency, anger/rage & gambling)
- Women's Co-Dependency
- Women's Eating Issues
- Men's Sexual Brokenness (incl. pornography, masturbation & sex addiction)
- "Newcomers 101" – for people new to recovery and/or C.R. (for both men & women)
Other sharing groups may be created as the program progresses and the needs arise.
Getting Involved
We're always looking for those who are in recovery and want to be a part of the leadership of this new program. This includes those who are willing to: lead or assist in leading small groups; lead in worship (sing & play instruments); be greeters; help with audio/visual tasks and work at the information table. Please contact Scott Fish at
fish.saved@yahoo.com.
And just to let you know...
Celebrate Recovery is very much like "Anon" programs—using the 12 steps, sharing, etc. The great difference is that Jesus Christ is openly front and center. As such, there is no place for using foul language, smoking anywhere on the Church premises or gossiping about others within the program—including while attending the meetings.
It is addiction that keeps our love for God and neighbor incomplete. It is addiction that creates other gods for us.
Because of our addictions, we will always be storing up treasures somewhere other than heaven, and these treasures will
kidnap our hearts and souls and strength. - Gerald G. May, M.D.
Please note that Bel Air Presbyterian Church and surrounding campus is a no-smoking zone, due to concerns of fire hazard safety. We appreciate your respecting this rule.
