FAQ's

What is KidsArts?
KidsArts is a new program that uses music, painting, dance, drama, and other arts to teach kids about Jesus and to help them grow in their faith.

What ages is it for?
KidsArts is for every kid from age 2 through the fifth grade. Essentially, we are adding more arts to the two kids choirs and crafts we currently have.

When does it happen?
KidsArts will be part of everything from Sunday School to Core Wednesdays to Family Worship in the Sanctuary. A lot of what will be part of KidsArts is already in place through these programs, but we will be adding more chances for kids to experience and create art as part of their spiritual formation.

Which arts are involved?
KidsArts will involve as many arts as are part of this church. In addition to kids choirs, painting, drawing, and kids worship times, we will be calling upon volunteers to help lead a 2 to 4 week series on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings that show kids how to experience dance, drama, crafts, film making, worship leading, and everything else our congregation is gifted in.

Why are we doing this?
In short, we’re doing this because we believe our kids deserve even more than we’re offering them in this area. With a congregation filled with so many incredibly talented people, this is a natural fit. Commitments are varied to match the diversity of our people and intentionally short-term to match their busy schedules. This way volunteers will not be giving up their time indefinitely, but their unique gifts can be used to help kids shape their faith.

Has this been done before?
The combination of different arts and their use in teaching kids is a time-tested approach used in schools all over the world. Research shows some people learn from seeing, others from hearing, and others from experiencing things first hand. This program is designed to apply that knowledge to teaching kids not only about themselves, but about the One who created them
.

How can I help?
KidsArts is an example of the adage that “it takes a village to raise one child.” To create this type of an experience for our kids we must have people willing to help by giving of their time and talents. To volunteer your help, contact Kathy Perkins, Head of KidsArts at 818.788.4200 ext. 189 or Kathy@belairpres.org. You can also download this parent involvement form (requires Acrobat Reader).

Welcome to Kids Arts!

Exciting things are happening this fall for the Bel Air kids. We’re starting a new art and music ministry. But it’s not just choirs. There’s something for everyone; from future filmmakers and set designers, to artists, budding photographers, composers and more.

In other words, if it involves the creative expression of our faith, we’ll be exploring it. And not just to showcase our talented kids. We want to involved them and teach them about creativity as a mean to know God better. So don’t miss out! We’ll kick off September 30th at the annual Involvement Fair and will start rehearsal for the ADVENT MUSICAL immediately. We’re looking forward to helping your kids express their God-given creativity – and having lots of fun in the process.
