For more detailed information about Element, including upcoming events, please visit belairyouth.com.
Element is a dynamic group of 7th and 8th grade students and their families led by an amazing team of leaders at Bel Air Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, CA. The mission and purpose of the program is for students to encounter the life-changing message of Jesus Christ and to experience discipleship within the context of personal relationships. The program is geared towards the heart of today’s teenager with the specific context of Bel Air Presbyterian Church in mind.
The program is designed to simply provide opportunities to do ministry–to hang out with each other, to laugh and play, and to share Christ. We build programs on the premise that early adolescents want to experience the real and active God in the world, and not just the idea or concept. They want to see God in action; not in theory
Pieces of the Program
Club 905 :: Sunday Morning Meeting, Evans Chapel, 9:05–10:15 a.m.
We begin the morning with all middle school students together for announcements, skits and songs of worship. Then we break into small group teaching times, led by our amazing volunteer leaders.
Shift Reality :: Tuesday Evening Meeting, Student Center, 6:30 –8 p.m. during the school year.
This is a great time for hanging out with friends, playing a crazy game and having a corporate, interactive teaching time. During the summer, we take Shift Reality poolside with Pool Parties on Tuesday nights located at different homes.
Fun Fridays :: Our big ’"shabang" event, held one Friday of the month. Check the events schedule for details and bring your friends!
Service Opportunities :: One morning or afternoon a month dedicated to serving others in the community, usually at our partner organization Hope Gardens. Check out
www.hopegardens.org for more about this great organization.
Family Night :: A chance for the whole fam to come and enjoy an evening of fun and fellowship together. Students, parents and siblings are all invited!
Retreats + Camps :: Overnight adventures intended to give students a chance to experience God outside of their normal routine. Our camps and retreats include class retreats, Forest Home Winter Camp and Hume Lake Summer Camp.
Mount Hermon Summer Camp :: July 7-13, 2013
Confirmation :: Confirmation is a time when young people claim the promises that were made on their behalf in baptism. It is an opportunity to learn what Presbyterians believe and to become full-fledged members of Bel Air Presbyterian Church. Students who have not been baptized will have the opportunity to do so when they are confirmed.
At Bel Air, the confirmation program (also called Confo) is available for students in 8th – 10th grade. The program consists of a parent/student orientation, 7 classes, a retreat, a mentor relationship, church attendance, a service opportunity and study of the material. Because we take this step on your faith journey seriously, all of these pieces are mandatory to be part of the program. Students have three years to participate, so if scheduling conflicts prohibit participation one year, we encourage you to wait until another year when you are able to make the commitment to the program.
The cost of the program is $100 per student, which helps cover the cost of the materials, the retreat, classes and Confo luncheon. Please do not allow the cost of the program to prohibit participation as scholarships are available.
Dates for our next Confo session are April 7- June 2, 2013.
