Take the Next Step :: Become a Member
Membership Classes
Sundays, April 7 & 14 > 12:45 p.m.–5:45 p.m. > DC101 > Joining the morning of April 21
Why membership?
One of the most commonly asked questions in church is, “Why should I become a member?” While the word “membership” is never found in the Bible, the principles behind membership are biblical. First of all, Jesus is committed to His Church. It is by His design that the church operates in the world today as His ambassador. We, too, should be committed to a local church, even as He is. Second, we are instructed by the Apostle Paul to be in relationship and community with fellow believers. This is where we find encouragement, accountability, and nurture. Third, membership lets the church know who can be counted on to do the work of the ministry for God's kingdom. In our consumer culture where there are plenty of “church shoppers and hoppers,” membership is a strong statement of commiting to serve Christ at Bel Air Church.
What is the membership process?
The membership process consists of a commitment of three Sundays. Two five-hour classes, from
12:45 to 5:45 p.m., then joining the church the following Sunday morning by attending both morning services. It is necessary to be present on all three days in order to join.
During the class sessions, you will have the opportunity to meet and hear from all our pastors. Each pastor will cover different topics such as our church history, the Presbyterian denomination, what we believe, Christian discipleship, and where you can get connected. We place a high value on small group discussion and give everyone the opportunity to meet other new members. The Membership process is capped off with the formal reception into the church body. By the end of the three Sundays, it is our intent that you have a better knowledge of Jesus Christ, Bel Air Church, yourself, and those in your small group.
